Joint Entrance Examination – Advanced (JEE-Advanced), formerly the Indian Institutes of Technology-Joint Entrance Examination (IIT-JEE), is an academic examination held annually in India. It is conducted by one of the seven zonal IITs (IIT Roorkee, IIT Kharagpur, IIT Delhi, IIT Kanpur, IIT Bombay, IIT Madras, and IIT Guwahati) under the guidance of the Joint Admission Board (JAB). The first institute of IIT, Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, started in 1951. In its initial years (1951-1954), students were admitted based on their academic results, followed by an interview in several locations across the country. From 1955–1959, admissions for the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur were conducted via a national examination. Academic disciplines were allotted to the students via interviews and counseling sessions held at Kharagpur. The IIT-JEE initially called the Common Entrance Exam (CEE), was first conducted in 1961, coinciding with the 1961 IIT Act The eligibility criteria for taking the JEE (Advanced) exam are: • Candidates should rank among the top candidates in Paper-1 of JEE (Main), broken down per category. For example, for JEE (Advanced) 2019, the top 250,000 were eligible, but only 46.5% of those were open for all, the rest being reserved for special categories. • Candidates should be less than 25 years of age, with five-year relaxation for SC, ST, and PwD candidates. • Candidates can attempt examination at most two times in two consecutive years. • Candidates should have qualified for the Class XII Board Examination (or equivalent) in the previous year. • Candidates should not have accepted admission in any of the IIT earlier.

The National Standard Examination in Junior Science or NSEJS is an examination in Science for secondary school students, usually conducted in the end of November. Organized by the Indian Association of Physics Teacher in association with Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE), NSEJS is considered toughest Science exam on higher secondary level globally. The NSEJS is carried out every year since 1987 in English, Hindi & a few other Indian languages. More than 80,000 students from over 1,500 centres take part in these The top 300 students or so, with statewise quota, from this examination are selected to sit for the Indian National Junior Science Olympiad. The examination, with both a theory and an objective paper is held in the last week of January. The top 35 or so students are then called for an Orientation cum Selection Camp (OCSC), and the top 6 among all students are selected for the International Junior Science Olympiad Only Indian citizens born on or before December 31, 2005 and are students studying in Class X or lower as of November 30, 2017, can apply and appear for NSEJS 2017 ? 2018. The student has to himself re-assure his eligibility. At any stage if the student is found to be not eligible for the exam, he/she may be disqualified from the program.
